In Response to a Sharp Increase in Canine Respiratory Illness, We Will Hold a Free Drive-Through Canine Vaccination Clinic this Saturday, August 11

Autumn Trails identifies sharp increase in canine respiratory illness.jpg

August 9, 2018

WHAT: Autumn Trails Veterinary Center will be providing free Bordetella and Parainfluenza intranasal vaccines to dogs as a response to a sharp increase in canine respiratory illness reported regionally. Due to the contagious nature of these illnesses, vaccines will be given in the parking lot with all dogs remaining inside cars. Symptoms present as a mild to moderate cough which often resolves on its own in four to seven days. Dogs do not need to be current patients of Autumn Trails but all dogs must have proof of current rabies vaccination to be treated. The value of the vaccine is about $33.

This clinic is for dogs that do not have current Bordetella and Parainfluenza vaccinations or for which additional protection is sought; vaccine manufacturers maintain that the intranasal version is more effective than injections. Autumn Trails suggests dog owners contact their primary veterinary care provider for their recommendation.

Dogs eligible for the clinic must be:

  • Eight weeks of age or older;
  • Healthy (no coughing, sneezing, fever, etc.);
  • Quickly, safely, and easily restrained by staff. Some dogs may need to be muzzled; and
  • Able to provide proof of current rabies vaccination.

WHO: Emily Gordon, LVT and the staff of the Center will provide the vaccines free of charge while dogs remain in their owners’ cars. No walk-up vaccines will be administered.

WHEN: Saturday, August 11 from 10 AM to 1 PM. Autumn Trails staff are asking patients to arrive at the following times by last name:

  • A-E arrive between 10-11 AM;
  • F-L arrive between 11 AM and noon; and
  • M-Z arrive between noon and 12:30 PM.

All patients will be seen in the car line on a first-come, first-served basis. Check out our Facebook event for the latest info, and while you’re there, please like and follow our page so you can keep up-to-date with the latest info on this outbreak.
